The Great American Tribute
to Ed LaPorta,
WWII Veteran and POW
In case you missed it, we held a rousing tribute
for one of your fellow Blue Moon friends
Sunday, July 11. Yes, on a Sunday!
It takes a very special customer to break our firm closed-on-Sunday rule. Ed LaPorta is just such a customer. Awarded 3 Purple Hearts and a POW Medal. 93 years old and going strong. His service to our country is inspiring. He's a true hero, a charming individual, and a real character to boot.
Smyrna Councilman Wade Lnenicka was on hand to proclaim July 11, 2010 Ed LaPorta Day in Marietta. Cobb County Commissioner Woody Thompson presented a poignant proclamation. The Marietta Daily Journal and local news channels captured the celebration. It was a real blast and a great honor.
"Big Ed's" take on the event? "I'm often asked the secret to living a long life. If you look around, that's the answer -- good friends, such as these. Good babies, such as these. There's nothing better for a POW."
We encourage you to check out a few of Ed LaPorta's video stories. They really are amazing. It'll make you proud to have him as a fellow Blue Moon friend. (You may want to keep a tissue handy for the Lefty story.)

Atlanta artist, Leah Hopkins Henry paints portraits of Georgia's fallen soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan and donates them to their survivors. As a surprise gift, Leah also presented Ed LaPorta Sr. with a portrait of himself during the Tribute.
